Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11)

Key Stage 2 History Curriculum (ages 7-11):

‘Pupils should be taught about an aspect of history or a site dating from a period beyond 1066 that is significant in the locality.’

During your visit with us the children can learn about the Charters that changed Faversham.  They can also wear medieval clothing that would have been worn by Faversham people.

The children would start by looking at a short presentation to explain what Magna Carta is.

The whole class will dress in medieval clothes.

For a half day visit, they would complete 3 different activities in rotating groups:

1. We have some questions on a clipboard the children can complete whilst looking at the actual artefacts.

2. They can make a clay seal like the wax seals used on the documents, they would also use quills and ink to write.

3. They would colour some illuminated letters, colour and stick together a horn template and complete a word search sheet.

We would recommend you extend your visit to a full day, by combining it with a Town Walk to look at some medieval features of the town centre.

For a full day visit you could eat your lunch in the historic Guildhall and soak up the history!

"As a teacher, I think you have put together a really good package for schools and I can see that a guided walk around the town would make the perfect day out."

"What an enjoyable morning we had - all the children had fun and were very surprised by how hard it was to write with a quill."
